Carpet Cleaning: Pet Edition
Man’s best friend, or carpet’s worst enemy? The age old question. Guess the answer depends on who you ask. No matter how cute and cuddly your beloved pets are, they’re probably going to test your patience from time to time. Even well trained animals have accidents, not to mention get sick, or shed like crazy. Some of it just comes with the territory, but there are a few things you can do to lighten the impact…
Brush, brush, brush
Brush dogs and cats as often as you can. It’s relaxing and they love it. Obviously pets with long hair shed more than short haired ones and require more brushing, but that doesn’t mean your dachshund won’t leave their mark on your carpet. Unless you have one of those Taco Bell dogs or Sphynx cats, brushing should be a regular part of your pet care routine. Added bonus for feline lovers, it’ll help keep your cat from getting nasty hairballs.
Accidents do happen
The only course of action for effectively treating pet stains is early response. Of course, most pet accidents occur while you’re away from the house, so what then? Hot water. Light pressure. Repeat. Try an environmentally safe spot remover if water won’t cut it. Don’t use anything acid-based or super-abrasive. If nothing works, then this may be one of the situations where only a professional steam cleaning will lift the stain.
Dog or cat?
If we had to choose, we’d say fish. But choice of pet species probably doesn’t come down to which is easier to maintain, so we’ll just cover the basics. They probably have an equal number of pros and cons anyway.
Dogs track in more dirt, typically, but then again, cats might bring home dead rodents. Statistically, more people are allergic to cats than dogs, so there’s one for the canines. If you’re worried about hair all over your clothes (and couch and carpet and sheets), then you’ll want a short haired pet, whether it be cat or dog (or a good lint remover). Cats are usually easier to house train, so now we’re even again. Dogs need to bathed, whereas cats mostly clean themselves, but then again, both wind up with fleas if you’re not careful.
Guess it’s up to you to decide. Oh, we almost forgot…if you have pets, it might be a good idea to schedule more frequent visits from the Austin steam cleaning pros at K&M. Your pets appreciate a clean home too—even if they have a funny way of showing it.
